The perception of an object's mass may not always be correct due to the object's density, volume, and distance from the viewer.

Therefore committees are needed to decide said mass and manage our perceptions so that we are not tricked by our eyes into thinking that our ship's trajectory will clear the relatively low-mass planet's gravity.
